Your surfing journey begins with the right equipment. At Lawrence B Primak, we believe your first board shouldn't frustrate you, it should empower you.

  • Volume is Your Friend: We focus on high-volume, stable shapes like mini-mals or funboards, making paddling and catching waves significantly easier.
  • Why Custom?: A custom beginner surfboard, tailored to your weight and height, provides unprecedented stability and paddle power compared to generic rentals.
  • Built to Last: We often craft beginner boards with durable epoxy, ensuring they can withstand the inevitable tumbles of the learning curve for years to come.

Local Surf Lesson Partnerships

While I build the boards, getting in the water with expert guidance makes all the difference. We've established partnerships with reputable local surf schools in the South Florida area to ensure you receive top-tier instruction. We build the board, they provide the waveside wisdom.

First-Timer FAQ

Foamies are excellent for your very first day, providing maximum safety and buoyancy. However, a custom-shaped, durable epoxy funboard from my studio will offer a significantly better glide, more responsive turning, and will truly grow with you, often lasting for many years beyond that initial learning phase. It’s an investment in your progression.

The ideal size depends heavily on your height, weight, and athletic ability. Generally, for adults, I recommend a board in the 7 to 8-foot range. This length provides the necessary paddle power and stability to comfortably catch waves and learn to stand. We'll discuss your specific needs to craft the perfect fit.

You're generally ready for a shorter, higher-performance board when you can consistently paddle into waves, stand up with confidence, and ride proficiently down the line on your beginner board. It's a natural progression, and I'm here to guide you through selecting your next step in the surfing journey.
